INSURING FAT STOCK.
An important gathering of grasier* wa» held at Auckland on Wednesday, to discuss the proposed insurance of live stock scheme. The scheme provides for the settler paying 4d for each ox. Id for each heifer, and I* for each cow six years old, stag or butt. The bwycr would pay a similar sum. At present a butcher has to bear any loss be may suffer if stock is condemned. The fund would be administered by the representatives of botchers and settlers, and an independent chairman. Mr E. Allen, of Cambridge, moved that the meeting approve of the proposats and recommends graziers and settlers of the Auckland province to co-operate with the butchers in forwarding the scheme. He further moved that »» fat stock be sold by live weigfet, as soon as the new saleyards are opened. Both resolutions were carried, the representatives from Waikato generally approving of the scheme, wbkb is bound to react to the benefit of the jettlers.as botehers will be able to give higher prices for stock when they know that they wilt not be made to suffer unduly when the inspector find* It necessary V» condemn any animal.
