CHURCH OF ENGLAND.

Successful Entertainment.

An entertainment in aid of the funds of St. Luke's Church was held in the Te Kuiti Hall on Thursday evening last. The function had been well organised, and favoured with beautiful weather conditions, it was only to be expected the attendance would be large. This indeed proved to be the case, and it is safe to say that those present thoroughly enjoyed themselves. An excellent programme had been prepared the wide variety of items being a special feature. Instrumental music was supplied by piano and violin; vocal items included songs, duets, and glees, while recitations provided further variety. The programme concluded with an amusing comedy sketch entitled, "The Area Belle," the parts being taken by members of the Otorohanga Dramatic Society. Special praise is due to the visitors for their contributions, which were well rendered and were heartily received by an appreciative audience. The Otorohanga performers in particular are entitled to the warmest thanks for thiiir efforts., and it is to be hoped they will be fixfjucr.tly seen before the Te Kuiti public, Encores were demanded by the audi- j ence for many of the items but owing to the length of the programme it was impossible in all cases to accede to the I request;- 1 .

In the comedy sketch, Mrs Kidson, as Mrs Crocker, the lady of the house, and Miss Jennings, the coquettish housemaid, were distinctly successful, while Mr Forster. milkman, Mr McDonald, policeman, and Mr Simpson, soldier, sustained their characters to perfection. After the concert dancing was indulged in till midnight, most of the audience and performer? taking part.
