Th«* Socialists and the Labour Federation nave proclaimed a general strikr in Buenos Ay res as a protest against the action of the police in quelling the disturbances which arose daring the Mayday celebrations. They demand the resignation of the Prefect of Police. The port is paralysed, and the strikers are holding up the trains. A body of two thousand troops has been ordered into the city to reinforce the garrison. Fighting is now proceeding in the streets between the strikers and the military. LONDON, May 4. The London wool sales opened today. Competition was brisk at par to ten per cent, advance on the closing rates of last sale. MELBOURNE, May 4. The wool shorn in Victoria for the i past season was 10,189,7721b less than for the preceding y«ar,and the average weight of fleece waa .07 lighter. SYDNEY, May 4. The first shipment of Australian made wool tops y$ about to be made to Japan, and will be followed by regular monthly shipments.
