The history of the capture of the j men who burglariously entered Mr j Hattaway's store at Piopio on Sunday ! last has a touch of humour. On Tuesday, as one of Mr Hattaway's waggons was on the road to Te Kuiti the driver, F. Pascoe, noticed two men in the scrub on the roadside and offered them a lift along the road. Suspecting the identity of the passengers Mr Pascoe made good time on the road and picked up a man he knew, about six miles from Te Kuiti. The original passengers were obviously uneasy, and expressed a wish to get out but the driver persuaded them to continue and eventually drove them straight to Mr Hattaway's stables at Te Kuiti. Constable Mathew was informed by telephone of the arrival and meeting the men in the street promptly effected an arrest. The men were in possession of most rtf the stolen property, and admitted their guilt. In a match at Johannesburg on Monj day between A. B.
