TOWN IMPROVEMENTS.
NOW that tbe street works at Te Kuiti are almost completed, the town is assuming an appearance somewhat in keeping with the recognised conditions of civilisation. Very few centres are naturally endowed with the facilities for 'expansion and progress such as are apparent at Te Kuiti, and it is to be hoped the residents will continue tbe good work 50 well inaugurated by the County Council. At no distant date it is to be hoped steps will be taken to provide a water supply for the town, while drainage works and street lighting will shortly become imperative necessities in the interests of health and tbe general well being of the community. In addition to these important and costly requirements, however, there are many matters which can be undertaken by the residents at small expense, and from which excellent results will accrue. In its main street Te Kuit possseses a splendid thoroughfare, the beauty of which would be greatly enhanced by the planting of a few trees along tbe railway side. It is to be hoped this matter will be taken up by the residents generally, and an effort made to take advantage of tbe natural facilities offered by Nature towards beautifying the town. There are many other ways in which tib« (rivic interest of the residents could be directed; and to those to wbom the public spirit appeals we must look for the betterment of surrounding conditions.
