PAEMAKO.

(Own Correspondent.) On April Bth the settlers of Mangaotaki gave a welcome social to Mr and Mrs Battley on their return from their honeymoon. The social, which proved a great success, was held in Mr Higginson's house, and too much praise cannot be given to both Mr and Mrs Higginson for all the trouble they went to in trying to bring the social to a successful issue. During the evening a comic speech was given by Messrs Evans and Armstrong, which caused a good deal of laughter. A sumptuous supper was supplied by the tadie* of Mangotaki to whom much credit is due. The social was brought to a close in the early hours of the morning, everybody going home tired but happy after their night's enjoyment.

On EsMtcr Monday night a very enjoy blc social and dance was held in the Pacmako school room, in honour of Mr and Mrs Evans, who arc leaving here on a nine months trip to the Old Country. The social was a great success, visitors from all parts of the district being present. During the evening song* and recitations were rendered by Messrs Elliott, Smith and Pitxpatriefc. Miss Stirling also favoured us with a number of songs which were received with much enthusiasm. The ladies of Paemako supplied the supper, ana the social was brought to a close by Mr G. Elliott, on behalf of the settlers, wishing Mr and Mrs Evans a pleasant journey home. Mr Evans suitably responded.
