FOOTBALL.
Nehinehinui Football Club. A meeting of th above club was held on Saturday evening last,when players to the number of sixteen were present. A fair amount of business was gone through, and the club is likely to have a very strong team to put in the field this season. It was decided ot the name which the team played under last season, and that, to open the football sea ;on, a match be arranged with the Te Kuiti Football Club, to take place on Saturday next. Hira Poutawera was elected Secretary and Treasurer for the ensuing year, and a strong working committee was "" appointed to look after the interests of the Club. Te Kuiti Football Club. The fourth annual meeting of theTc Kuiti Football Club was held at Mr Kerr's on Thursday evening, Sth inst., Mr Chas, Phillips being in the chair. The balance sheet showed a credit balance of £5 14s lOd from last season. The following were elected to office for the ensuing season: Patron—Mr E. Kerr. President—Mr Chas. Phillips. Vice-Presidents— Messrs Boles, Chilcott, Darrow, Cheal. V,\ McColl, H, McColl, C. Matthew, J. O'Brien, J. Young. Committee —Messrs Boies, P. Cotter, Keighley, Pitcor.. H. Rothery, Williams and Spragg. Hon. Secretary and Treasurer — .-.. S. Gresham. Delegates to P.t:;-'::;.- UnionMessrs P. Cotter and A. 5, 7-resham. There is every reason to holieve Te Kuiti will place a strong t;am in the field this season, judging- ::y toe manner in which new men-.';:tts ore coming forward. The first practice match is announced ot take place en Saturday afternoon next, and will be locked forward to by local enthusiasts. The approach of -winter is rousing footballers to action in the interest of their favourite pastime, and two Te Kuiti Clubs have already held their annual meetings. As will be seen by advertisement in another column the annual meeting of the Maniapoto Rugby Union is to be held on Thursday evening next, Arpil 22nd, when the programme for the season will be determined upon. The Nehinehinui team, winners of last year's Union competition, will again place a strong team in the fieM this season. The Te Kuiti Club has had its annual meeting and the balance sheet indicates a healthy tone as far as the financial position is concerned. With regard to the playing strength of the team it is said the club will be considerably stronger than last season, having been reinforced by several good players from other districts. The Piopio and Oparure Clubs are ;' expected to enter teams for the Union | competition again this season, and I with an even number of Clubs playing j interest in the game should be well maintained. ! The match between Te Kuiti and j Nehinehinui teams to be played on Satj urday next is to be commenced at 2 , o'clock, and ail player- are requested j to be on the ground in good time
