MANGAPEHI.
(Own Correspondent). On Saturday last the members of the Manonui Tennis Club paid a visit to Mangapebt,and played a tournament with the local club. The weather bad • threatening appearance all the morning, and just after dinner down came the rain, spoiling the play. The court was soon covered with a sheet of water, and the balls grew heavy as lead. The visitors were met at the station by members of the local team, and] wore entertained to a cop of tea and refreshments on the Court. Shortly afterwards, the ptay was commenced, and as there were two matches, A and B, to be got through in the day it waa decided to play 50 points up instead of sets. The first game was the Gents' A Singles, in which Harper.the Manonui representative, defeated Hayson of Managpehi by ten points. The players were evenly matched up to about 40 points all, and then Harper seemed to draw right away from his opponent. The rest of the games played had all the -tame results. Manontsi proving tjo strong for her opponents. The players were entertained to dinner at Mrs Smallbone's boardinghouse, and were provided with afternoon tea on the Court by the ladies. Owing to the delays caused by the ' rain, the train came in before the B matches were concluded. The following is the result of the are games:— A Team. Gents* Singles: Harper, Manonui, 50 beat Bayson, Mangapehi, 40. Gents' Double?: White and Harper. Manonui, 60 beat McCracken and
Bayson, 52. Ladies' Singles: Mrs Milne, Manonui, 40, beat Mrs Elite. Mangapehi 20. Ladies' Doubles: Mrs Reynolds and Mrs Mike, Manonui, 40 beat Mrs Ellis and Mrs Cowley 32. Combined Doubles: Mrs Reyonlds i and partner, Manonui, 50 beat Mrs Cowley and Mr Seymour, 43. B Team. Gents' Singles: Re id, Mangapehi, 10 in tead (unfinished). Ladies Doubles: Miss Brothers and partner, Manonui, beat Misses Scherer and Tomltnson. Combined Doubles: Mr Wilson and partner, Manonui, beat Miss Cowley and Mr J. C. Rtst. Gents' Doubles: Manunui pair beat Messrs Rtst and Fisher. Mangapehi Tennis enthusiasts are eagerly looking forward to the visit of the Rangaroa Tennis Club's team on Saturday next, and when some good play ought to result.
