A meeting, called by the Maori chief TeHeuheu Tukino, will be held at Waihi, Taupo, on April 10th. for the purpose of settling the Native land question, and more especially to endeavour to get the Natives to fall in witfc the proposal to bring about a'settlement oy te*ma, suitable to both Nativea and Europeans. Invitations have been issued to His Excellency the Governor, Ministers of the Crown, and between 400 and 600 leading chiefs of both Islands. Te HeuheU explains in connection with a statement published on March 13th. in which he spoke of "shooting the Government" if they did not accede to the demands.' of the Maoris, that bo only used the words as a joke. He points out that the Maori is too courteous to threaten to shoot people whom he baa invited to become bis gueets.
