MANGAPEHI.
(Own Correspondent.) On Tuesday evening last the local Tennis Club held a general meet; g to discuss th*r anticipated visit of the Manunui Tennis Club to Mangapehi on Saturday next Arrangements were made for receiving and providing refreshments for the visitori. It was decided to select two teams, an "A" and a "B" team, and to acquaint Manunui team of the fact, in order that they might bring down two teams. A tocal selection committee of three, consisting of Messrs Rist. McCracken and Hayson. was selected to choose the players to do battle for Mangapehi on Saturday. The asphalt court is in good order at present, allowing of fast piny, and so some good play is anticipated at the match. Mr S. Connolly, a mill hand, employed locally, met with a painful accident on Monday. He was standing with his foot on one of the tramrails. upon which the travelling bench runs, and having his head turned away busying himself with a piece of timber, he did not notice the approach of the bench with an eighteen foot log upon it. The wheels struck his left foot, knocked him down on the rails, and the bench mounted bis leg to well above the ankle. Only by prompt stoppage of the machinery was the bench prevenetd from passing right over him. Starnge to say. no bones were broken, and beyond laceration of th« skin and strained muscles, causing a severe lameness, the man came out of bis |>c rilous position unscathed.
