MAHOENUI RACES.

The annual race meeting was held at Mahoenui on Monday last. There was an excellent attendance of settlers from Awakino, Mokau and surrounding districts, and the days' sport was concluded without a hitch. Much of the success of the gathering was due to the efforts of the energetic secretary, Mr T. Kiner, who organised the details in a most businesslike manner. The booth was run by the Club and ample provision was made for everybody. The racing throughout was of an interesting nature, good fields and close finishes being the order of the day. The chief event of the day was won by Te Kawau, with Kaipara second while Kaipara accounted for the hurdle race. Te Kawau also captured the flying stakes after a good battle with the top weight, Roi. The following are the results of the variuos events: — Maiden Hurdles: Skypilotl, Tupuhi 2. Hurdles: Kaipara 1, Skypilot 2. Cup: Te Kawau 1, Kaipara 2. Pony Race: Clover 1, Te Kumi 2. Settlers' Race: Wairini 1, Slygrog

Flying Stakes: Te Kawau l,Roi 2 Consolation: Roi 1, Oceolo 2.
