MANGAPEHI.

On Friday evening last a very enjoy* able farewell social rendered by the local residents to Mr and Mrs J. P. Bailey. wfc> are leaving this district for Taomaxonoi. The ball was tastefvtlly decorated with booting, and the floor bad been pot in excellent otdcr by the social committee Messrs F. Mays*, W. McDonnell, D. Seymour. J. Boat and B. W. Hayson. Excellent dance music was rendered by Mcsdamc* Hogg and Haines (piano). Mr Hogg (violin) and Mr Keroot (Bote). Messrs Maym and McDonnell, as M.s.C bad drawn op an excellent programme of dances interspersed with tongs. Sooner was handed round at II o'clock, and was moch appreciated. Just before supper Mr J. Cray, on behalf of the residents of Mangapehi. made the presentations. After expressing, in a few well chosen words, the general regret felt on the departure of Mr and Mrs Bailey from the township, and the hearty good wishes of all for their happiness and prosperity in the future. Mr Gray presented Mrs Bailey with a beautiful silver cruet, and Mr Bailey a handsome case of pipes. Both presents wore suitably engraved. Mr Bailey, in a short sppech. returned thanks for the kindness done Mrs Bailey and himself that evening. The dance was continued until 2 a.m. when all dispersed tired but happy. The local cricketers are to try conclusions with Te Kutit on Saturday next. Though the former is only a newly formed club, the members hope to pot a ggood fight against Te Kuiti*s chosen I. The local team will journey to Te Koiti by the cxpressa train.

The following players have been hosen to represnt Maongapehi on Saturday : Messrs P. Bramtey, S. Connolly, P. Walsh, B. Hayson, A. McCracken captain. J. Smalllbone. A. Sttelern A. Beckett, P. Maync Mr Baskerville . P. Shortcliffe.
