On Friday. February 19th, a wry successful 9chool picnic was held on Mr V. S. Hattaway's paddock which proved an ideal spot to hold itteh an ev«nt. being surrounded as it is with splendid willows which afforded admirable shelter from the rays of the awn.

The local people patronised the outing and amongrst the visitors, friends wero rvM-oirnfrwJ from Mairoa, Mangaotaki. \-rr.x. Mana:«kowhai.Oparu« and Piopio. ! ,ur ; .-h was provided by the ladies of v- iuit.trict, which was partaken by •"••• frit-ruin. The prizes for the vari■'■'i.' -■ Titi were provided by the school <-"mmtte« and the events created considerable interest among the children.

The »'vent that caused greatest amusement was the tug-of-war, and to the

disgust of the boys the girls simply *a!k*»d away with, the event. The

married ladies' race proved an easy -*Ajnfr for Mrs Slines. The programme *m carried through expeditiously and afterwards a realty good time was pent with social games and outdoor amusements, which were joined in by everybody present. The prises which wf presented from the committee were distributed during the afternoon in t.h«> children who were successful in their work during the year. The prizes being presented by Mrs Gleadow. The grand final was a successful social held in the school, to which a splendid winter of settlors and their friends attended, and continued to the small hours of the morning. The Chairman of the school committee, in a few well chosen remarks thanked alt for the splendid assistance rendered to make fhr event suecssfol, and specially thanked Mr Hattaway for the use of hiu paddock, which proved highly suitabie for such a purpose as a picnic tCTOUTtd.
