Noxious Weeds.
i TO THE EDITOR. Sir. —1 should like to draw attention to a matter which is of the utmost importance to the whole district. I ! refer to the noxious weeds which arc so plentifully in evidence just now. | ! More particlarly dol refer to ragwort, the beautiful yellow bloom of which is to be seen tinting hill, and valley, and slope, in whatever direction one may ride. This is not as it should be. We are told by shfcep men that ragwort is not greatly to be feared, but we are not all sheep men, and in any case, as one who baa «een something of the evil attendant upon the spreading of the weed, I think it is high time ! vigorous steps w-ire taken to check Ha growth. On top of the first hill from Te Kuiti on the Awakino Road is ailne patch growing unchecked, and die seed of it i» enough to sow the country side. Again, en the road between Oparttre ami the Trooper's sections, tile weed is growing luxuriously on both Native and European land, and next season it will probably take possession of a very large area. Considering the stage settlement has reached in the district, it is certain that even with every effort on the part iof the asttlers, the utmost difficulty will be experienced in fighting the pest, and it is to be hoped the authorites who are responsible for Act will take prompt steps to do so. There will be difficulty, no doubt, in dealing with unoccupied Native lands, but no time should be lost in doing everything that can be done. Trusting an abler pen than mine will deal with the question. I am. etc., TARANAKf. n?xt sitting of the Tc Kuiti I Magistrate's Court pi jut on FrbJ ruary 17th.
