Bakal as director of the Warsaw police, Bakal afterwarsd joining the revolutionaries and revealing police secrets. Seventeen others have been arrested with Lopukhin, and there is great excitement in St Petersburg. Shipping Disaster - A cable from Adelaide states that the steamer Clan Ranald was wrecked in the St. Vincent Gulf, eight miles from Edithburg, late on January 31st, 46 of her crew being drowned. The Clan Ranald was wheat-laden to the United Kingdom. The weather was rough, a sooth-east gale blowing, and it is surmised that the shifting of the cargo caused the vessel to fill and sink. The crew was composed mostly of coloured men. Eighteen were saved, among them the first mate. The white members oi' the crew are reticent as to the actual cause of the disaster. From what can be learned, however, it appears that something must have occurred aboard the Clan Ranald. The hypothesis is that the ship struck the Marion Reef, which lies to the southwest of Troubridge Hill. Attempts to obtain anything definite have been futile. "There is too much at stake" was the reply of the first officer when pressed for information. Earthquake in Morocco— A serious earthquake and landslide has occurred between Centa and Tctuan. on the northern coast'of Morocco. It is reported that over one' hundred people have been killed or injured. Earthquake FundAdvices from Rome state that the various subscriptions for the relief of the stuffcrrrs in the recent earthquake, have reached a total of £3,200,000.
