THE KING COUNTRY CHRONICLE. MONDAY, FEB. 1, 1909 TE KUITI CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
The interest and unanimity which characterised the meeting held at Te Kuiti on Friday night for the purpose of forming Chamber of Commerce, is gatifying evidence that public spirit is awakened, and that the townspeople are live to the advantages accruing to concerted action. The peculiar advantages possessed by a Chamber of Commerce are that such a body is tied to no definite policy, nor is it fettered by statutory restrictions in pursuing any line of action. Moreover, a Chamber of Commerce is universally recognised as a responsible body, carrying with it the weight of public opinion, and conserving the interests of all classes in its own particular district. In growing towns, more especially in such centres as the King Country possesses, such bodies are vitally necessary to the progress of the district. In our own district the field of action is practically unlimited. On all sides requirements await fulfilment, and any effort which will tend to modify existing greivances, or improve present conditions in any way, will be widely welcomed. That the newly formed body will justify its' existence we have every confidence, and the interest manifested at the initial meeting was a pleasing feature as indicating the knowledge of the necessity for action, and a promise of hearty support in the future.
