DISTRICT REQUIREMENTS.
■+. During the recent election campaign many matters of interest to the various localities were placed before Mr Jennjngs, member for the district. Immediately after the election, Mr Jennings interviewed heads of the various departments "regarding the matters brought before him, and has received replies with reference to the following matters: —
Ohura Road: The Minister writes to the effect that a. sum of £IOO was issued to the District Road Engineer, New Plymouth, on Ist December, fcr the further improvement of thePaoraeHeao Bridge section of this road. As regards that portion of the MangaroaTatu section known as Huhatahi Saddle, instructions have been given to have a portion metalled as far as funds.. will permit. Waikaka Road: With reference the slip on this road, the Minister writes that the Engineer states that this has given much trouble as it frequently fills up the track soon after being cleared away, on account of it being situated on a steep face and resting as it does on papa rock. ft appears that.the slip has always been kept open, but is very boggy during the winter months. The work of widening the road, including this slip, is now in full swing, and I am informed that the road throughout is now in very good order. lam also informed that the slip is about 50 yards across, not 10 yards as stated by Mr Jennings. Tokirima Road: In reply to the petition from the settlers interested in the widening of the Tokirima Road, the Minister states that the matter will receive consideration, but as a sum of £IOO only was voted for the road he is afraid that it will not be possible to do very much at present* towards carrying out the wishes of the petitioners, but he will do what he can in the matter.
Miroahuiao-Matiere Road: In reply to a petition from settlers in the Aria district, urging that about 30 or 40 chains of the road should be metalled, the Minister states that enquiries are being made and the application will be carefully considered. Mangapapa Road: With regard to pushing on work on the Mangapapa Road, the Minister states that the road is a new one, par e of it having only just been surveyed. Work on this part will be put in hand at once if the labour can be obtained.
