OUR CITIZEN ARMY.

Colonel Allen Bell, commanding the 2nd Regiment, accompanied by StaffMajor Coleman, visited Te Kuiti on Friday in connection with the inspection of Government property, and matters affecting the welfare of the Regiment. Consequent on the resignation of Lieut. Edgecombe it will be necessary to elect another Lieutenant, who, it is proposed should be in Te Kuiti, this being considered advisable owing to the growth of population in the King Country, and the possibility of having a strong voluneer corps in the neighbourhood of the town. For the purpose of electing a Lieutenant, and calling in all Government property on issue to the troops, for inspectoin, a dismounted parade will be held in Hetets Hall on Friday 22nd January.at 8 p.m., when all those wishing to join the corps are invited to Tje present, and will be sworn in. We trust that the efforts of those who are interesting themselves in the furtherance of the volunteer movement in this district, will meet with the ready response that it undoubtedly deserves. We regret to learn that Capt. Berry, who has been one of the oldest and most consistent workers in the volunteer movement in the Waikato, contemplates resigning owing ot theealjs on his time wh-ich his private business entails. However, we understand that Capt. Berry's services will not be entirely lost to the Defence Forces, as he will probably be appointed to the Active List unattached.

We understand that Colonel Bell will be- present at the parade on the 22nd instant, and we hope to see a muster present on that date that will be a credit to Te Kuiti and the King Country. •:•

Colonel Bell, accompanied by StaffSergt Major Coieman left for Otorohanga on Saturday, where a parade of the local troop was to take place at 2.30 p.m.
