Cleaning White Lace.

Most lace may be washed at home, with careful hands, but I would advise that such lace as old valuable Brussels or Honitons be sent to a professional cleaner, because, should it require mending they can do so without you detecting the rent. Almost every kind of white lace must be carefully starched in rice starch. Boil two ounces of rice in two quarts of water, until the rice is ready to crack, pass through sieve, then through muslin, set away until cold; it will then be a thin jelly. Stir as much as you require in some hot water; then dip in the lace, squeeze out, rinse the lace in the lightest of blue water. Then roll up, taking the points or scollops, in the left hand, and the straight side out, pulling carefully the whole time, roll in a cloth until nearly dry. Carefully pin out upon a cushion, or upon the iron ing blanket. If the lace is large, throw sheet over the bed, then pin out the lace to its original shape. These laces may be pressed or ironed with p cool iron.
