Welcome Social.

On Thursday evening, 22nd inst,. a very pleasing function took place in the new hall, when the Church of England congregation and friendB —in fact members of all denominations— met at a conversazione to welcome the Rev. A few of the oldest officers of the Church and residents welcomed the guests at the hall door and then proceeded on to the stage. Here the licensed layreader (Mr Melling) in a few appropriate words bade Mr and Mrs Morse a very hearty welcome on behalf of the people. Mr Morse responded by thanking everyone for their kind welcome, and he hoped they would soon make a good New Zealander of him. He particularly mentioned the work done by the layreaders of the Dominion, saying he was proud to be sitting between two of them, viz., Mr R. Ormsby, senr., who was a licensed layreader at" Pirongia for many years, and Mr Melling, whose efforts had kept the church together here for ten years])- also others. He concluded by thanking all present who had contributed to theJ evenings enjoyment. II
