Scaley Legs.
This is an unsightly trouble among fowls, and, while it is seldom fatal, it
reduces their vitality, and impairs their usefulness. The growth of thick, ugly scale 3 is the result of small parasites that work, or rather live, in the seams of the scales. It is not contagious, but it is communicable, just as all parasites are, by their passing from one fowl to another. A very simple remedy is entirely effective. Take equal parts of coal oil and lard, warm and thoroughly mix. Apply to the scaley legs, carefully but gently rubbing it in, being careful to treat every affected part. One thorough application is usually sufficient. As a precaution, whitewash the roosts, adding a little carbolic acid or coal oil to the whitewash, and your flock will soon be rid of scaley logs.
