Poultry Notes.
It is advisable for the poulterer to get as close to the consumer in marketing fowl and poultry as it is possible to do. Pure bred birds being fixed in type give better results than crossbreds, arc usually hardy, better layers, and better table fowls than the average mongrel, and in breeding we get uniformity in size, which is quite impossible to get with mongrels. A pure bred cockerel can stamp its likeness on its progeny, but the mongrel cockerel may be as big and as good a table fowl, but still quite unfit for breeding purposes, as it has no power whatever of stamping its likeness on.its progeny, and therefore cannot give fixity of type, and for this reason should be destined for the pot. The poultry yard should not be regarded as only a means to make more money. If it helps to make farm life more attractive, it will be no less pro" fitable than if it added directly to the bank account.
