OHURA VALLEY.

Roads are still in a very bad state as a result of recent showery weather. This, however, did not interfere witn the attendance at the recent bachelors' ball, which was a huge success. New officials have been appointed for the Ohura Sports Club, and a lengthy programme has been drawn up for the annual meeting, which takes place on December 16th. The Ohura Rifle Club is making great strides under the command of Capf. Loveday, who is confident of getting together a strong team to compete at Trenthain, next February The aunual meeting of this club takes place on November sth, when trophies will be competed for by both ladies and gentlemen. The day is to be wound up with a grand concert and ball. The Ohura Medical Association Committee are doing good work in the interested' the settlers and general public of this district. Having secured the services of Dr C. R. Rowlands for a further term of two years, dating from Ist March next, an entirely new scale of charges has been drawn up for subscribers who sign the guarantee before the end of the present year, thus enabling members to be treated at just half the ordinary- fee, with a corresponding reduction of 50 per cent, on mileage. It is also proposed to erect sn up-to-date residence at Mangaroa immediately the roads are sufficiently solid to carry the timber. Scarlet fever has made its appearance in the neighbourhood of Mangaroa Mr W. Print, of Mahorahora having three of his children laid up. Fortunately Dr Rowlands was called in at the right time, and the disease has so far been confined to the one family. The patients are progressing favourably.
