RUE DAIRYING INDUSTRY.

Aria Factory.

On Monday last jMr Townshend arrived at Te Kuiti and proceeded to Aria next morning, for the purpose J!of preparing to open the factory. In conversation with a "Chronicle" representative Mr Townshend said he considered the prospects for the coming season were of the brightest nature and good prices were anticipated for both butter and cheese. With reference to the industry : locally, he felt sure there was a fine future for dairying, though the settlers were hardly ready for it yet. In addition the reading question was of the utmost importance, as before the industry could be thoroughly established the roads would require to be in a very different condition. This season he expected the Aria factory would be receiving milk from about 400 cows, which wa3 about twice as much rnilk as last year's supply, and settlers should be in a much better position in consequence. The factory was booked to open at the beginning of October, and would be ready about a week ahead of that time. Next year they should be running at the beginning of September and b~e able to take avantage of the full season. Mr Townshend has every confidence in the future ufo the district, and considers it compares favorably with any other dairying centre he has ever seen. In crder to work to the best advantage he would like to see the lighter fern lands put under root crops for a Starßand vernment should assist the settlers in this respect, as the increased benefits would wonderfully improve the district. The famount received by suppliers for last season's operations worked out at a fraction over 8d a pound for butter fat. Considering the late start and the drought which occurred during the season, this was very satisfactory, and "as an indication of what could be done under favorable conditions was most encouraging.
