OTANGIWAI (MANGAPAPA)
fl £ (Own Correspondent.) ** * he Bachelors' Ball held on the 15th ult., was a very successful affair. Despite the unfavourable weather, there was quite a large gathering, and djL is the general opinion that the I&'helors have earned a splendid rotation through carrying out their arrangements so well. The Co - operative Creamery and Manager's residence have been completed recently. The creamery now only needs the setting up of the necessary machinery to be ready for the demands of the season. The recent showers have had a very beneficial effect on the pasture lands of the district. Notwithstanding the rather severe spell of frosts, the season is quite early, and the verdant green is everywhere much in evidence. Most of the settlers have done a good deal of ploughing and cropping this season, and this will no doubt have a very beneficial effect on their "flats,'' as well as providing plenty of winter food for stock. The merits and demerits of oaten sheaf versus ensilage; of turnips, carrots, and mangolds, are all absorbing topics, and from all accounts, the dairy cattle will never have to lament over the shortage of winter feed henceforth.
