CORRESPONDENCE.

♦ TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — Can any of your readers inform me of the date of the opening of the trout fishing season in this part of New Zealand? In the railway guide for this year and in the price lists of several dealers in fishing appurtenances, the date set down is October Ist. Yet last year we were unable to start fishing until November Ist ! Trusting that some of your readers may be able to. enlighten me on this point, and thanking them in anticipation. I am, etc., B. W. HAYSON Mangapeehi. [Constable Mathew, of Te Kuiti, informs us that in the Auckland district the season opens on November Ist. We understand that in all other districts the opening day is October Ist. The Auckland season closes a month later than the others.— Ed. K.C.C.] TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Now that the busy seaspn for settlers is approaching, it is to be hoped some steps will be taken to arrange for a satisfactory train service from the Waikato sales to the King Country. The • early train from Te Kuiti is a great advantage, but in order to make it a real convenience the Department should go a step further and run a late train back from Ohaupo at least once a week. At present Thursday's late passenger train from Frankton is no convenience, and' in order to suit the public a train leaving Ohaupo about four or five o'clock on Tuesdays would be the thing. Thursday's late train may suit the Department, but settlers are unanimous in wishing for a late Tuesday's train, and I hope a strong application will be made for it. —-I am, etc., BACK BLOCKER.

[The Otorohanga branch of the Farmers Union has already made an application for the above service as will be seen in the report of their last meeting appearing in this issue. Ed., K.c.a]
