c (Own Correspondent)The usual monthly meeting cf this branch of the N.Z. Farmers' Union was held on September 2nd, and notwithstanding the bad weatner it was largely attended, Mr John Orrr.sby being in the Chair. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The outward and inward correspondence (of which there was a great deal) was read, discussed fully, and on beingput to the meeting was passed as read. MJhC. J- Johnston proposed that the meeting accord to the Chairman a motion of condolence and sympathy with him in his his recent sad bereavement. Seconded by Mr R. G. Matthews and carried. R. G. Matthews proposed that tne secretary be instructed to write to the Traffic Manager of N.Z. Railways (Auckland Section) asking him to meet the wishes of the farmers throughout the King Country, by running a later train from Ohaupo on each Tuesday evening, the day on which the stock sales are generally held at Ohaupo. Seconded by Mr R. F. Gregg, and carried. Mr R. F. Matthews proposed a resolution condemning the principals, provisions,and clauses in the ' 'Shearers' Accommodation Bill" now before .Parliament, as the said clause and the Bill in its entirety are inimical to the welfare of ail engaged in the sheep farming industry, and that the secretary be instructed to send copies of such resolution to the member for the District and the Minister for Labour. Mr R. F. Gregg seconded the motiion fi was carried unanimously. Mr , Matthews proposed that the secy be instructed to write to Mr Jen- *,, M.P. in order to ascertain her he is in accord with the ls of the platform of the N.Z. Far'\"'s' Union, prior to taking any steps toselect a candidate to represent the constituency in the Parliament of the Dominion, and that Mr Jennings be askexl to reply by wire, in order that the 'report of this branch's selection of a candidate may be forwarded to the Provincial Secretary, on cr before the 18th September, 1908. Mr R. Ranby seconded the motion which was earned.

Mr Ranby moved that the fresh election of officers of this branch be deferred until the nesting; held prior tthe 'close of-the financial year eel: the Union, which in 31(31: March in each yet", and that tee Cr-airrean and Secretary the/: place their reports and balance sheet, and a resume of the wcrk done since inception of this branch cf the Union, The ?ncf,:on was seconded bj r Mr Rhodes and carried. Mr A. J. Ross proposed a vote of thanks to the Hen. Secretary for his past services to the Union, which was seconded by the Chairman, and carried. Mr Ranby proposed a similar vote to the Chairman for the able and agreeable manner in which he had executed his functions as a chairman. Mr T. Gregg seconded the motion which was carr ; ed. Mr R. 0. Matthews proposed the. following new members :---Messrs '*?. D. McLean, K. M. McLean. Perej r Ellis, George Kay, John Budge. James Nixon, Hamilton Allen, and E. M. C. Carlisle. Mr Kanby seconded and all members proposed, arc duly elected to the 'membership of this branch. A vote of thanks to the chair concluded the meeting.
