MATIERE.
(Own Correspondent.) The annual meeting in connection with the Matiere Hall was held in the Hall on Saturday, August 22nd. There was a fair attendance, and Mr A. H. Hyde was voted to the chair. The Secretary read the following report and balance sheet: —At the last annual meeting held August 9th, 1907, the following committee was elected:'— Messrs Hyde, chairman. A. O'Brien, Stubbington, Towers and Le Cocq, secretary. Early in the year Mr Towers resigned, and Mr L. R. Hill was appointed to fill the vacancy. When your committee took over the management the Hall was unfinished, and there was a debt of £2 4s. During the year we have received the sum of £l3 0s 6d, and have spent exactly that amount, as shown in the balance sheet. We have repaired the hall sufficiently to be used; we have erected r. stage, and obtained a piano in conjunction with the Dramatic Society: paid the outstanding debt, and made arrangements for the hall to be used as a Courthouse. The only debt we have incurred is on the piano, which we share with the Dramatic Society. We have to thank the Musical and Dramatic Society for the generous way they have treated us during the year, and we have particularly to thank them for giving an and raising sufficient money to get the timber, etc., to line the Hall. We have also to thank Mr Hyde for the great interest and energy he has taken in the Hall matters. We wish the hall prosperity, and a coat of paint during the coming year. Mr Box proposed, that the report and balance sheet be adopted, which was seconded by Mr W. A. Carter, and carried. It was proposed and seconded that the hall be vested under the Public Libraries Act. The following committee was elected for the ensuing year: —Messrs Hyde, A. O'Brien, Le Cocq, Hill and Carter. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks to the chair.
The return football match. Matiere School v. Mangapapa School was played at Matiere on Saturday, August 29th, and resulted in an easy victory for the visitors by 27 points to nil.
