MATIERE.
W (Own Correspondent.) At a meeting of the Ohura Settlers' Association held at Matiere on the 22nd inst., the rules of the Association as drafted by the Committee, were submitted, and agreed to with some slight alterations. The secretary reported that several matters of importance to the district had been brought before the Ministry. A letter of thanks had also been written to Mr F. Lawry, M.P., thanking him for his action in pressing the claims of the settlers here for the starting of the railway line at Ongarue. It was resolved that a meeting be held at Niho Niho to elect two representatives on the executive committee. It was also resolved that the Committee be instructed to see that all grants made for the district are fully and properly expended, and that when possible, it is the wish of the Association that all work be done by contract in preference to day labour. A motion that general and annual meetings be held alternately at Matiere and Mangapapa was carried.
