Divine service was conducted in the local public hall on Sunday morning last, by the Rev. E. Ward, of Taumarunui. A congregation of about. 30 was present. The fine weather has broken up at la=t and it looks as if the wet is now to have its turn. On Monday .night torrents of rain fell, and as a consequence the Mangapeina stream was bank high bv the morning. The under-vards of the local timber mills were flooded, necessitating ceasation of work for four hours. A heavy thunderstorm passed over the town on Tuesday night, accompanied by a heavy rainfall. ■ The local tennis enthusiasts had another good afternoon's practice on Saturday last. Some of the lady plavers nut in an appearance, and several enjoyable sets were played. A meeting is" to be held this week to arrange the repairing and opening ,of the court, etc.
