CRICKET.

i A meeting is called for Monday next j to arrange matters in connection with j the formation of a cicket club at Te I Kuiti. Liberal tupport has already j been promised, and there is little doubt 1 that a strong muster will be made. An endeavour is to be made to have pitches laid down on the Domain. The soil on the reserve is too light to stand the wear and tear of playing on the turf, and it is proposed, with the permission of the Domain Board to have suitable soil carted on to the ground and laid down with the rght sort of grasses to form a turf wicket. During the first season however, it will probably be necessary to use matting in order to give the grass a chance to get properly established. It is hoped that a start will be made with the wicket at once, so that it may be ready to play on at the opening of the season. With a view placing the game on a sound basis an endeavour is to be made to form a Cricket Assdication in the district. Teams will be formed at Piopio and Te Kuiti and it is proposed to approach the players of Mangapeehi, Otorohanga, and Te Awamutu, for the purpose of establishing a strong controlling body. Providing teams from the places mentioned co-operate it is thought the difficulty of travelling can be overcome to some extent.
