MANGAPEHI.

The weather has at last broken Up, after a series of ten successive frosts* and it now looks as if we are in fof ,a spell of wet weather. The frosts were undoubtedly severe, but ttafey were so invariably succeeded by sucil gloriously bracing days that one rather regrets the change. Local residents will, however, welcome the rain, in that it will refill the water tanks which have become almost empty during the dry spell. Service was conducted in the Public Hall on Sunday evening last by Sister Alison, of Tiroa, and, despite the fact that the night was bitterly cold, a very fair congregation was present. The local branch of the St. John's Ambulance Association had its last lecture from Dr Zobel on Thursday evening last. The members will now rehearse the matter studied between themselves for a week or two, prior to subjecting themselves to the certificate examination. This will be conducted by Dr Cairns, of Taumarunui., The Boxing Club held two very successful evenings on Friday and Tuesday evening last. Messrs Wade and Milard, as instructors of boxing and gymnastics respectively, are proving themselves very competent teachers. /

Mr F. Mayne has now taken over the boardinghouse formerly conducted by Mr W. Hogg, and, as he has a grown up family of four girls to manage, affairs, should make a success of the venture. Mr Mayne has a powerful attraction in the form of a fifle large Edison Phonograph, 'together with about ioo popular records. The shooting season having terminated, local enthusiasts are Wondering what to do with themselves until the fishing season opens in November. There are some rabbits about, bilt I hey are few and far between. /
