SANITATION.

The action of the Waitomo County Council in obtaining the services of an inspector of the Health Department to undertake the sanitary inspection of Te Kuiti must receive the support of the general public, and there can be no doubt the appointment of Inspector Bennett will result in all round benefit. The officer in question has been visiting the district for less than a year, and already in the townships of Otorohanga, Te Kuiti and Taumarunui the good results of Inspector Bennett's commonsense attention to the sanitary conditions of mentioned have produced, widespread benefit. An inspector of the Health Department is invested with very wide authority, as is the case with the most capable in any branch of service and Inspector Bennett,by endeavouring to educate the people with whom he has to deal, to the advantages of thorough sanitation, and inspire them with a knowledge of the best methods to adopt, seeks to achieve the desired end and render a permanent good to the community without resorting to drastic compulsory methods. An officer of this description is highly necessary to a young and growing district, and it is to be hoped full advantage will be taken of the opportunity now afforded of making use of the 1 Inspector's experience and knowledge.
