FOOTBALL.
Te Kuiti v, Piopio.
The Te Kuiti-Piopio match was pbyecl on Tc Kuiti Domain on Saturday last and after an extremely close game resulted in a win for the local players by 4 points to nil. Playing with the winct in the first spell Te Kuiti consistently pressed the visitors and narrowly escaped scoring on several occasions. However, the forwards failed to open out the game to any extent, which as a result developed into a forward scramble. Each time the Piopio line was crossed the defending side succeeded in forcing, and it seemed as though the spell would conclude without a score. Shortly before half time, however, the leather came out to F. Kerr about the visitors' 25, and making a clever cut the Te Kuiti three-quarter had a flying shot at goal, the ball sailing fairly over the bar. In the second half the Piopio side, playing with the wind, made strenuous efforts to equalise matters and some exciting play ensued. Once Coburn got fairly away with the ball, and being supported by Mason it seemed as though a try was certain. Coburn transferred to Mason when tackled, and the latter had a clear run in but was chased and overhauled by Anderson before the line was reached. The Te Kuiti forwards cleared their line with a good rush, and though the local backs were called upon to defend one or two subsequent attacks, they proved equal to the occasion and the game resulted : Te Kuiti 4 points, Piopio nil.
