A fire occurred in the town on Tuesday afternoon, resulting in the total destruction of Mr Signall's residence. The chimney was first discovered to be on lire anil was supressed, but the woodwork must have Ikvu .smouldering, as after everything was considered safe, the tire was observed io have taken hold of the house and d* spite all efforts to tight the flames, 'die building was totally destroyed. The bouse was insured in the State I'ire Insurance for £3OO, and the furniture was covered to the extend of i IO;).
The return matches between Otorohanr.a and Te Awamutu Football Clubs were played here on Saturday last. In ill# junior contest victory rested with the visitors by 10 points to nil. The local senior team, however. registered a win over Otorohanga seniois by o points to 3» after a close and exciting game.
