LOYAL TE KUITI LODGE.
Manchester Unity Oddfellows. The usual fortnightly meeting of the Te Kuiti Lodge was held on Thursday, May 28th, in the Congregational Church. There was a very good attendance of members, and additional interest was added to the proceedings owing to the attendance of the District Officers : Bros. Frederick Shaw, Prov. G.M.; H. A. A. Le lioux, Prov. D.G.M.; and John McLeod, District Secretary. It may be mentioned that the District-Officers opened a new Lodge of the Manchester Unity of Oddfellows on the previous evening at Morrinsville. The Te Kuiti Lodge is increasing in membership, several new members being proposed for initiation, while additional interest was added to the proceedings by the District Officers conferring degrees on all the members present. Very instructive addresses were delivered by the District Officers on the Friendly Society movement generally. The Manchester Unity of Oddfellows number 20,155 members, and they have a capital exceeding half-a-million sterling in New Zealand. The Friendly Societies in the Dominion paid over £IOO,OOO in sickness and medical benefits last year, the medical profession receiving £50,000 for their services. A matter of considerable local in* terest is the fact that the Te Kuiti Lodge is considering" the advisability of erecting a hall for the holding of its meetings.
