KING COUNTRY ROADS.

Stonecrusher to be purchased. Information was furnished during the week that it has been definitely decided by the Government to place a stone-crushing plant on the main King Country-Taranaki Road as soon as the plant could be purchased. Naturally the news was hailed with widespread gratification, and, though it will probably be some months before the plant can be placed in the district ready for work, the knowledge that at last substantial and permanent work is to be undertaken upon the main highway of Te Kuiti district will be doubly welcome to those who have to brave the trials of the coming winter. The agitation for a stone-crusher has been of a most persistent nature, and, apparently, the cry for the adoption of a meiailing policy by the Government, has at length been heard. Several years ago it was understood that crushers were to be placed on our roads, and it is common knowledge that the engineers in charge of the district have persistently urged the necessity of such a scheme. Mr. Hursthouse, who was in charge of the district until about nine years ago, supported the idea, which was also advocated by his successor, Mr. Burd, and the crusade has been successfully continued by Mr. Julian, who has now received instructions to purchase the plant.
