MANGAPEHI.
On Monday evening last a farewell social was tendered to Mr R. H. McKenzie, who has given up the local butchering business, and intends shortly leaving the district. There was a large gathering of friends present, and all agree that the evening was one of the most enjoyable spent in the Hall. Numerous songs' were rendered by leading local talent, which were much appreciated, and loudly applauded. Dancing was then indulged in till the small hours of the morning. Ample refreshments were provided which were done justice to. During the course of the. evening, Mr McKenzie was the recipient of a handsome present, which took the form of a magnificient dressing case, presented by the fesidents of the place. Mr Gray, on behalf of the residents, expressed great regret at losing so poplar a personage, while Mr McKengie responded, in a ver-y efficient manner, with a few fitting words. Being a very prominent figure in connection with all local affairs, Mr McKenzie will be greatly missed, especially in the local sporting circles.
