FOOTBALL.
The first match of the season was played at Te'Kuiti on Saturday last, when Maori backs and Pakeha forwards played Maori forwards and Pakeha backs. The Ngati-Rora team was well represented, but owing to non-appearance of the Te Kuiti team the match as arranged had to be abandoned and the one as stated above was played instead. The game ended in a draw, each side registering nine points. Mr Harrison acted as referee, and filled the position in a capable manner. Some good play came from the three-quarters of both sides, but the play by the Maori backs in that position was undoubtedly the best. The combination consisting of J. Hetet, J. Taylor and Rou Rata were responsible for some very clean play. The forwards, too, played sterling games, and altogether an interesting match was witnessed.
The following team has been picked to represent the Ngati-Rora football club in their match against Otorohanga on Saturda} r , April Ilth, at Otorohanga : Full-back Rou Rata ; threequarters—J. Hetet, J. Taylor, Tauru : five-eights —H. Poutawera : forwards —T. Anderson, Hikaka, Rora, Rehi, H. Turner, Huiatahi, Warihi, and R. Turner. Emergencies (forwards) — W. Kiri, Kirikino ; (backs) A. Harrison, G. Poutawera.
