STOCK SALES.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, report as follows : On Wednesday last at Ohaupo we yarded 18,000 sheep. A large attendance of buyers were present from all parts of Waikato, King Country, north of Auckland and neighbourhood, and we report a successful sale, only a few pens of lambs and 2000 Napier ewes remaining unSold. The rain, which fortunately on Sunday and again on sale day, gave buyers an incentive to purchase at higher values than previous sales. This was more noticeable in values of fullmouthed ewes, this class realising quite 2s per head over our first fair. Two, 4, and 6-tooth ewes were in brisk demand and sold up to 17s 6d. Most of this class was bought by outside buyers in large lines. Fresh full-mouthed ewes made 14s iod to 16s 6d, good full-mouthed ewes I2s 6d to 13s gd, others 9s to lis, cull ewes 6s to 7s 6d, 2 and 4-tooth wethers 14s 3d to 15s 6d, fat and forward wethers 16s to 17s 6d, good woolled forward lambs 3s 6d to lis, others 6s 9d to 7s iod, cull lambs 4s 6d to 5s 3d, good shorn lambs 16s 6d to Bs, culls 3s gd to ss. An extra large yarding of rams of all classes, Lincolns. English Leicesters and Romneys, were required. Shropshires and Southdowns at low values. Two-tooth Lincolns realised from 3%gs. to 6gs., English Leicesters 3gs. to sgs., Romneys gs. to 2gs.
On Friday last, March 13th, at Cambridge, we offered the largest muster of cattle for some time, yarding over 700 head of all classes. There was a large attendance and bidding was brisk. Best steers realised from £8 6s to £9, lighter weights £6 to £7 7s 6d, young cows and heifers £4 5s to £5 2s 6d, aged heavy cows £3 15s to £4 10s. A choice lot of 150' 2 to 3-year steers from Taupo made from £2 19s to £5, others £3 5s to £4 19s, choice 18-month steers £2 10s to £3 3s, fresh-conditioned cows £2 2s 6d to £3 10s, store cows £1 /s 6d to £1 16s, strong calves 18s to 255, others from I2s 6d to 15s, good dairy cows at calving £8 10s. Sheep.—Woolly lambs brought 8s 6d each. Pigs.— Pigs came forward in large numbers, but prices were lower, slips bringing 14s to 2is, weaners 6s 6d to Bs, and small pigs 4s.
We held our monthly sale at Te Awamutu on Saturday, when a full yarding of cattle came forward. There was a fair attendance of buyers from Te Kuiti, Otorohanga and surrounding district ; we report a most successful sale. Fat cows made £4 10s to £5 ; store cows, £2 to £2 15s ; 18months steers, £2 10s; 18-months heifers, £1 10s to £1 I2s 6d ; yearlings, mixed sexes, £1 12s ; calves, mixed, 15s to £1 ; small sorts, /s 6d to lOs 6d ; wcaner pigs, 6s to 8s; sulky, £9; buggy and harness, £22 lOs ; poultry a'nd sundries at usual prices,
