STOCK SALES.
The Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Ltd., report as follows: —
We held the first sheep fair iof the season at Ohaupo on Wednesday last, and yarded 19,250 sheep, comprising 15,100 ewes, 3000 lambs, 560 wethers, 300 fat sheep and 150 rams. There was a large attendance, and bidding was brisk for young ewes and lambs, prices for these being very little lower than at the first fair last year, but aged ewes, however, showed a decided decline, prices being from 2s to 3 s lower. This does not apply to good sound 4-year-old ewes, these being already is to 2s lower. Wethers sold well, and met with good competition. Choice 2-tooth ewes 19s to 2is 3d, others 16s 6d to 17s 6d, black face 2tooth ewes 14s 6d to 16s 3d, 2-tooth wethers 15s 8d to 17s, small-framed 2-tooth close wool wethers 12s to 14s, 4 and 6-tooth Shrop cross ewes 13s 3d to 16s, fresh full-mouth ewes 14s to 15s 9d, sound-mouthed ewes 10s to I2s, aged ewes a bit shaky in mouth 7s to los, cull ewes 5s to 6s, fat and forward lambs lOs to Us 9d, store lambs 7 s 6d to 9 s sd, shorn lambs 6s to 9s id, culls 5 s 3d to 6s Bd, fat wethers 18s, ftat ewes 14s 6d to 14s 9d. Lincoln £ims made sgs. to 6gs., Romney rams 3gs. to 4gs., English Leicesters 3%£ s - to sgs-» Southdowns 3%gs. to - tooth Leicesters 2-tooth Shropshires 2%gs. to 3/ig" s - 13*200 sheep were sold. At Hamilton on Thursday last we yarded 400 head of cattle. Bidding was not very brisk. However, the majority of the cattle were disposed of. Fat steers made £6 15s to £7 18s, fat cows £5 is to £5 6s, fat and forward cows and heifers £3 lOs to £4 15s, fresh 3-year-old bullocks £5 lOs, store cows 29s to £2 13s, yearling steers £2 /s, heifers 275, young calves I2s 6d, bulls 35s to £2 2s, fat wethers 17s 9d, fat ewes I2s 6d to I 4 6d, pigs, slips lOs to 16s 6d, weaners 6s 6d to 9s 6d. At Cambridge on Friday last we yarded 320 head of cattle, and 590 sheep. There was a good attendance and prices ruled about the same as late sales. Fresh-conditioned 3Vi and 4-year steers made £6 to £6 3s, 3 _ y ear steers £4 19s to £5 lOs, 2 to 3-year steers £3 14s to £4 lis, yearlings £2 lOs, fresh cows £3 2s to £3 17s 6d, store cows £2 5s to £2 6s, young calves lis. Sheep. —2-tooth wethers 15s iod to 16s, 2-tooth ewes 15s 9d, fat ewes 14s, cull ewes 8s 6d, lambs 8s 4d to 9s 6d, cull lambs 5s 6d. Pigs—Slips 13s 6d to 19s, weaners lOs to lis.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, report as follows : At Hamilton on Thursday last we had only a small yarding of stock. The beef pens contained 86 steers and cows, many being fair quality, Only a few pens of fat sheep were offered. Light-weight steers made up to £7, cows £4 7s 6d to £5 2s 6d, fat lambs lOs gd to Us 9d, ewes lis to I2s 9d, store lambs 7s to 8s 2d, wethers 14s 6d, 15 to 18-month heifers £1 14s to £2 ss. The farm at Tuwhare offered for sale was afterwards quitted privately at the reserve. A five-acre section at Kirikiriroa was passed in, the highest bid being £4O an acre.
Messrs Alfred Buckland and Sons report
At Remuera on Thursday, February 6th, few dairy and store cattle were penned, and sold at late quotations. Young fat calves were short of requirements, and sold at from £2 to £2 14s. Less than the average number of fat cattle came forward ; the quality was good in most cases and prices were firmer all through. Steers ranged in price from £5 13s to £lO 15s, cows £3 lOs to £6 15s. The sheep pens were well filled with good class mutton, which sold freely throughout at an advance on last week's values. Best wethers brought from 18s to 22s 3d, lighter weights 17s, heavy ewes up to 19s, others lis 6d to 17s. Lambs penned In usual numbers, and met with better competition than of late, selling from 6s gd to 16s 6d. Pigs were in full supply with an easier value for all classes.
