THEFT OF GRASS SEED. A Maori, named Tainui, was convicted on a charge of stealing a bag of grass seed, the property of D. Ross, from Kio ICio railway station, and was fined £2 and costs, £7 13s 6d, or, in default, one month's imprisonment. UNLABELLED LIQUOR. Whero Whero was charged with having unlabelled liquor in a prohibited area, and also with aid and counsel the commission of an offence. Mr Gillies appeared for defendant, and pleaded guilty to the first charge. A plea of not guilty was entered on the second charge. After hearing evidence His Worship convicted defendant, who was fined £5 and costs, I2s, on the first charge, and £5 and costs, £2 3s 6d, on the second charge. A prohibition order was also issued against defendant. Wini Rawahirua was charged with similar offences to Whero Whero. Mr Gillies represented accused and pleaded guilty to both charges. On the charge of having unlabelled liquor defendant was fined £2 and costs, I2s, and for aid and counsel in an offence £5 and costs, £l I2s. A prohibition order was also issued against defendant.

Ali Mahomet was charged with supplying a prohibited person with liquor and also with bringing liquor into a prohibited area, there being reasonable grounds to suppose such liquor was intended to be kept for sale. Mr Gillies appeared for defendant who pleaded not guilty. The first charge was adjourned till March 26th. After hearing evidence on the second charge His Worship decided to give defendant the benefit of the doubt, and dismissed the case. A prohibition order was issued against defendant. , . A SERIOUS CHARGE. Tukiterangi was charged with' having committed rape upon a woman, named Rangi Pakuru at Hangatiki. Mr Macdiarmid appeared for accused, and pleaded not guilty. After hearing evidence on both sides, His Worship dismissed, the case. . ASSAULT. Christopher Maher, charged with assaulting Donatus Hickey, at Te Kumi, on January 2nd, was convicted and fined 10s and costs, or, in default, 7 days imprisonment. CIVIL CASES. ,

W. Standish v. G. Colville : Claim, £BO for commission. Mr Hine appeared for plaintiff, and Mr Collins for defendant. On Mr Hine's application the case was adjourned till March 26th, the plaintiff to pay costs. H. Isaac v. Ringihanga : Claim £6 19s. Judgment for plaintiff, with £l 13s costs.
