N.Z. FARMERS' UNION.

j Mokau-iti Branch. A meeting of the Mokau-iti branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union was held at Kaeaea on the Ilth inst., when Mr F. Ellwood occupied the chair. Captain Allen Bell, Provincial President of the Union, was present, and addressed an enthusiastic gathering of members. A full report of Captain Bell's speech appeared in the Chronicle last week. At the conclusion of the speech the branch held its ordinary meeting, Mr Ellwood presiding, and several matters of local importance were considered. The advisability of establishing a private telephone system throughout the district was discussed, and the question was received with enthusiasm. A committee, consisting of Messrs J. Keighly, J. Williams and R. Riddle, was appointed to act in conjunction with the Secretary (Mr C. Riddle) in furthering the project, and to obtain necessary information. It was resolved that the Secretary write to the Inspector of Noxious Weeds drawing his attention to the growth of weeds on Native and unoccupied Crown lands in parts of the district. Other business was attended to, and it was decided that in future the branch should meet on the second Saturday of each month, at 1.30 p.m.
