ACCIDENT ON AWAKINO ROAD.
An accident, which might have been attended with serious consequences, occurred on the Awakino road, about three miles out from Te Kuiti, on Saturday last. Mrs Rawstron was driving home to Mangakohai in a sulky, accompanied by her little boy, and, when rounding a sharp corner near the three mile peg, the horse swerved suddenly ancj sprang over the embankment, which is very precipitous and twenty or thirty feet deep. The occupants were . thrown clear of the vehicle, and fortunately escaped with slight injuries, though sustaining a severe shock. The sulky and harness were badly damaged, but the horse was practically uninjured. Mr Bevege, who was proceeding to the Mairoa, came on the scene and rendered what assistance was in his power. Mr C. Searanckc kindly provided a buggy and f % drove Mrs Rawstron home. It is surprising that the occupants of the , sulky escaped so easily, as the cm- _ bankment is very steep and is studdcdiwith tree stumps. Mrs Rawstron . is to be congratulated upon her nar- ,• row escape.
