THE WOOL OUTLOOK.

There never was a time in the history of trade when the position of wool was so hotly debated as at present, and when the question of price versus consumption was so keenly contested. On the one hand we have those who tell us that wool is bound to share in the general fall which all commodities, except wheat and coal, are at present encountering, while, on the other hand, there is a school of prophets who say that the world's needs, in regard to textiles, are such that every ounce of wool grown will be wanted before another clip comes round. It is certain that users face the coming Australasian, Cape, and River Plate new clips with cleanswept boards, and as this is written there is great urgency being shown to purchase suitable stock. It can be taken for granted that users would not be operating in Australia, as cable reports say, and paying the long prices they are, if they were not in urgent need of the raw material, and it seems that we are not as yet going to encounter much of a set-, back unless we are ftlunged into some great commercial calamity, or see a great railway strike There is no doubt that the trade and commerce of the world is strung together with a very sensitive cord, and whatever important happens, it soon affects the entire lump. The financial panic in New York has given rise to feelings of pessimism on this this side of the Atlantic, and made woolmen prick their ears as they looked upon the situation. The question asked is: How is this going to affect the American buyer of wool, and is it going to put the brake upon colonial purchases during the next few months ? Dalgety's Review.
