OTOROHANGA.

A sale of work, in aid of the funds of the Anglican Church, for which the ladies here have been working hard for some months was brought to a successful issue on Wednesday, lßth inst. The result exceeded all expectations, as there will be over £7O cleared when all expenses are paid. This, with £23 which was in hand, will make a nice sum to start the Church, which is to be gone on with immediatety, the land having been secured and paid for some time ago. The ladies committee, viz. : Mesdames Burnand and Lowe, Misses Vicary, Jennings, Taylor and Johnson (secretary) deserve great praise for the excellent manner in which everything was carried out. They were ably assisted on the day by the Rev. S. Spencer. The stall-holders were •* Plain and Fancy (No. I): Mrs Burnand and Miss F. Vicary; Plain and Fancy (No. 2): Mesdames Vicary, Ranby and Miss Vicary; Refreshment Stall: Mesdames Lyall and Johnson; Toy Stall and Christmas »Tree: sfiss Jennings; Bran Tub: Mjss Taylor; Flower SjfaU : Miss Jqlmsqn; Fortuneteller: Mrs Solomon- The nail-driving and .sawing competitions created much interest and gave splendid returns, as also did the guessing over Mr R. Gregg's sheep, and Mr Dave Turner's pony. By the afternoon train from Auckland a beautiful collection of pot plants was sent by D. Hay and Son (nurserymen), needless to say they sold rapidly. Mr Turner very kindly gave his hall free of charge, and Mrs Vicary is giving jjy£ pep cent qn the takings,
