Mr W, Adams was the only applicant for the above position, and if was decided, on the motion of Cr Ormsby, seconded by Cr Hoffman, that the Council accept Mi' Adams as their engineer. Cr Ormsby proposed, and Cr Hoffman seconded, that a committee of three, consisting of the ('hairman, Crs Ormsby and Williamson, be appointed to consider and settle details in connection with the appoint-ment.-Carried. NIGHT-SOIL SERVICE. A letter was read from I>r Pin dy, requesting that the Council acquire the exact number of pans fur the service, and that, if necessary, he would ask Inspector Bennett to take a census of Tc Kuiti householders. Kcceived. Only one tender was received for the nigbtsoil contract, and as the Council considered it vague and excessive, it was decided to extend the time for receiving tenders for same, till January 20th. The Chairman proposed that by-laws be formed, and notice be given that the Sanitary Bylaws will be brought before the next meeting of the Council, the same to be a special meeting, and was seconded by Cr Johnston and carried. CORRESPONDENCE. Mr McCan, of Otorohanga, wrote/ stating that several lessees of sections had done certain fencing to sections which they had no right to do.--The Clerk was instructed to attend to the matter. Messrs Mordaunl and Bailey wrote requesting the use of a portion of Rora-street for scaffolding purposes in connection with their buildings, which were in the course of construction. —Permission was granted providing they complied with the usual conditions, and had a light placed out at nights. LOAN FOR TE KIIITI. On the motion of Cr Ormsby, seconded by Cr N. I. Hunt, it was iresolved that the boundaries for the township be the same as the present plan with the inclusion of the recreation and school grounds. - Carried. MANGAORINO LOAN. A special rate of 2d in the £ was struck on all the rateable property within the Mangaorjno special rating area, to provide for payment of thn interest and sinking fund and other charges in connection with the proposed loan of £l()oo. " TUMPS." Cr Johnston asked for the expenditure of " thirds " accruing on the Tuimi Turnu - Waitomo road. He stated that there was a slip on this road and that it would take several pounds to shift, and asked that the settlers be given the work by day labour, as it was difficult to tender for such contracts. Nearly all the Councillors spoke on the matter of " thirds," and it was finally decided that where urgent works were necessary and " thirds " were not available, for expenditure, that the work should be paid for out of the ordinary votes. G. Wratten wired asking for permission to expend £IQ of " thirds " accrqing, on Ins road, Waitoiqo. Hesui- " ved that a schedule of works be sup-, plied to the Clerk. HY-LAWS. The Clerk was instructed to attach the County seal to the by-laws and have same distributed. LICENSES. It was resolved that all licenses be enforced after January Ist, 1908. DOC. TAX. A long discussion took place over the dog tax, and Crs Williamson and Scholes pointed out the hardships that the settlers of their ridings had to contend with in the matter of rabbit nuisance, and asked, 011 behalf of the settlers, that rabbit dugs be exempt from the tax. It was resolved that the tax for the ensuing year be as follows: —Otorohanga and llangatiki ridings—Cattle dogs 2s bd: rabbit dogs 2s 6d ; sporting dogs 10s ; and in the rest of the ridings of the County, the tax be the same as the past year, viz: cattle dogs 2s (xl; sporting dogs Ids.
