A Maori, named Ton, charged with letting off a cracker in the main street on December sth, was and tilled £.S and costs, £.> ,}s. A similar charge; against a boy was dismissed.
T. 11. Wliimp was charged with keeping whisky lor sa|c a| Mal*a|o|it, (."oilstable Montgomery gave evidence in support of the charge, and said that complaints had been made about: accused selling' grog. Defendant denied the sale and said he kept the whisky for his own use. lie had got twelve bottles on September )«S 111 and twelve bottles again on October 2,4 th, and lie had given sin bottles of the first lot to l\. Campbell. The latter corroborated accused's statement, and said he bad never known accused to sell whisky. The Heuclj sai<( (l|(. circumstances were suspicious, Inn could not convict on t lie evidence.
A youth, named Frederick Bradley, alias Dunlop, was charged with entering the house of W. Hooks, of Pungapunga, and taking a sum of money, including a pound note and two florins. /After hearing evidence Worship committed accused to the Supreme Court for trial. In the case ofSwallow v. Lloyd, in whidi ]bc former claimed £(>), balance due oi| a contract in the ( >h(i| : a, Iho plaintiff was non-suited, Mr Short* land appeared for pi a i 111 i and Mr K„ Nortbcroft for defendant. Several debt cases were also heard.
