KAWA DRAINAGE SCHEME.

To the individual resident of the King Country, living his life in his chosen sphere, the progress of the district may seem of the slow order, but that real and active progress is being made we have pointed proof on all hands. An extensive district, in which a start has to be made from the virgin stat(* takes years to show material advancement, but with activity and enterprise operating in various directions, much may be accomplished in the course of a few years. The negotiations for the leasing from the Natives of Kawa Swamp, and the project for turning the great natural resources of the land to material use, have at last been concluded, and it is gratifying to learn that immediate steps are to be taken by those interested, in the direction of draining the area involved. The benefit to the district will 'pe widespread, and in affirming the fact at the recent meeting, the settlers interested took a definite and decided step in the march of progress. All those concerned in the project are to be congratulated on their action, and their seems to be every prospect of a huge area of land, that has for generations existed as an unprofitable waste, being turned to its legitimate use. The earth and the fulness thereof are only possible to those who strive and are prepared to persist. The bringing in of every additional acre of new country means advancement, and the'greater the difficulties that arc overcome, the more deserving are those concerned of the hearty assistance and congratulation of their fellow settlers.
