THE KING COUNTRY CHRONICLE. FRIDAY, DECEMBER 13, 1907. PREMIER'S PROJECTED VISIT.
It is seldom the King Country is favoured with a visit by a Minister c,{ &ie Cjrown, and in the past when, spurred by some errant impulse, a wandering (member of the jVlmjstry has invaded the precincts of the Rohe Potae the chief desire manifested was in the direction of getting away again .Vviihout troublesome questions being asked., of y&z£.4 issues raised. However, the old Older pi things is changing, fUid the authorities are evidently awakening to the fact 'that this is a country worth acquainted with. It is, therefore, with geoijinp pleasure we hear that the Premier, accompanied by the member for the difsi:,':?;. intends visiting the King Country in jativ.a,y". As yet little is known of the itinerary of Utc ;\ r ;yty gave that the Ohura is to be I favoured 1 a and arrangements are jjeing iwacje j<y tjj £he visitors , on a itwlsii Sg.aje. It is fg foetfeyojiffy > hoped that cnctgetie Steps wjll 1 taken b} r the residents in other cdnttC.s to induce the party to make an ex-1
tended tour of the district, and no | means should be neglected to that end. Strong reasons can be urged in support of the object,-and, apart from it being the duty of our legislators to become acquainted with every district in the Dominion, it is equalfy the duty of the residents of such districts to further the closer acquaintance to the full. Cases could be cited in numbers, in which the personal knowledge of local circumstances by the authorities would be of supreme importance, and, as opportunities for imparting such knowledge are seldom available, the grasping of the chance which offers should be unanimously attempted. Diplomacy is a term which has become peculiarly adapted to politics, and the knowledge that geniality and goodfellowship go hand in hand with success in the diplomatic world, is recognised. The Ohura people, in making preparations for the entertainment of the visitors, are adopting the first and most human means towards success in claiming attention for matters affecting the welfare of their district, and such knowledge should be the unspoken testimony to others : "Go thou and do likewise." A public meeting is advertised to be held at Te Kuiti on Friday evening, December 13th,for the purpose of endeavouring to induce the Premier and party to visit Te Kuiti district and to make arrangements for their proper entertainment. It is to be hoped a representative gathering will assemble and that every effort will be made towards accomplishing the object of the meeting.
